M.I.A.

“Go Off”

A.I.M.

Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, who goes by the name M.I.A., is an English hip-hip artist/activist who might be one of the most controversial artists in the world.  It is no doubt that she is not afraid of stating exactly what she means, and she refuses to shy away from material most artists would be afraid to touch.  In that way, she reminds me of CocoRosie.  But the most amazing thing about M.I.A. is her talent.  She beats harder than anyone out there, and she is always pushing the boundaries of music, incorporating hip-hop, rap, punk, pop, r&b, etc. all into one.  Politically, she reminds me of the Clash and Anti-Flag.  Musically, she has a lot in common with Neneh Cherry.  Whatever, she is the best at what she does.  Grab my iPod or my phone, and you’ll catch me listening to M.I.A.
