With their debut album just a month away, rising punk rock band Winona Fighter has unveiled another electrifying single from the record. Today, the band released “R U FAMOUS,” a fiery anthem aimed at social climbers and opportunists, along with an accompanying music video. Watch “R U FAMOUS” here: https://youtu.be/MnKtScnMTs8.
“‘R U FAMOUS’ is about people who try to benefit from others’ success in the music industry,” explains frontwoman Coco Kinnon. “I think the term is ‘starf****r,’ but I’m pretty sure you can’t print that in an article! Still, that’s exactly what inspired it. It’s something a lot of up-and-coming artists deal with—something we’ve experienced firsthand with someone we thought was a friend.”
Kinnon also shared insights about the music video: “We’ve always joked that if we ever went full Y2K aesthetic, it would mean we’re all about the money grab. So, what better way to depict a slimy person than leaning into that money-grab vibe? We’re All Gonna Die Productions nailed the Tony Hawk Pro Skater aesthetic we wanted. We had a blast channeling our inner Y2K bros for the day, but I’m never wearing low-rise pants again… like ever.”
The band’s upcoming album, MY APOLOGIES TO THE CHEF, featuring recent singles “ATTENTION,” “Swear To God That I’m (FINE),” and “I’M IN THE MARKET TO PLEASE NO ONE,” drops on February 14th via Rise Records. Pre-orders are available now: https://WinonaFighter.lnk.to/MyApologiesToTheChef.
To celebrate the release, Winona Fighter will embark on their headlining Yes, Chef Tour from February 14th to March 7th. Tickets are on sale now at https://winonafighter.com/.
