Sister Ray (aka Ella Coyes) is back with their sophomore album Believer, out this Friday via Royal Mountain Records. The Toronto-via-Alberta artist made waves with 2021’s Communion, earning Polaris Prize recognition and praise from Pitchfork, NPR, and The Guardian. Now, they’re leveling up.
Produced by Jon Nellen (Big Thief), Believer is raw and immediate—each track written and recorded in a single day, embracing imperfections and emotional honesty. The album features collaborations with Marc Ribot, Paul Spring, and Isaiah Barr, pushing Sister Ray’s sound into bold, genre-blurring territory.
Today, Coyes offers a final preview with “Wings”—a dreamy reflection on freedom and possibility, born from a lost passport, a long date, and the Lisbon coast. It’s a song that captures the quiet magic of a moment right before everything changes.
Catch Sister Ray on tour with The Weather Station starting today in Brooklyn.
