New York’s dynamic talent, Pretty Sick, has unveiled her latest single “Streetwise” alongside an evocative video, heralding her return to the music scene with her first release since 2022 through Dirty Hit. The track precedes her eagerly awaited ‘Streetwise EP’, set to drop on June 27th. Celebrated by DAZED for her “brash, youthful, and scuffed” sound, Pretty Sick—fronted by Sabrina Fuentes—breaks new ground with this release. “Streetwise” sees Fuentes collaborating with Swedish producer Woesum, known for his work with Yung Lean and Thaiboy Digital, to craft a sound that marries electronic beats with dance vibes, enhancing her signature blend of grunge and post-punk. The track features Fuentes’ dreamy vocals against a backdrop of gritty sonic landscapes, highlighted by a catchy hook and her cool, deadpan lyricism. This single signals a bold, experimental shift for the artist as she gears up to deliver more music later in the year.
Emerging from New York’s underground scene, Pretty Sick was founded by a then 13-year-old Fuentes and quickly became a staple in the city’s DIY circles. Gaining traction with her hyper-personal songwriting and gritty, nostalgic production, Fuentes caught the attention of Dirty Hit with her self-titled EP in 2017 and continued to rise with subsequent releases. Her debut album ‘Makes Me Sick Makes Me Smile’, produced by Paul Kolderie, marked a major milestone in her career, followed by tours with indie stalwarts Beabadoobee and Yves Tumor, and a modeling stint for Marc Jacobs. Now, riding the wave of her seminal album, Pretty Sick is poised to continue her ascent with “Streetwise”, a testament to her evolving artistry and enduring impact on New York’s alternative music landscape.
