Peel Dream Magazine is set to revisit its acclaimed 2018 debut Modern Meta Physic with a deluxe reissue that includes 8 bonus tracks, available digitally and as a striking yellow and black splatter vinyl via Slumberland Records. Among the bonus material is the demo version of Callers, recorded during the album’s original sessions.
To celebrate the reissue, the band will hit the road with a series of February and March dates opening for Friko, plus a special stand-alone show in Los Angeles at the Teragram Ballroom with Sour Widows. Fans attending the LA show can grab an exclusive lathe-cut 7” single featuring two previously unreleased Rose Main era songs, with all proceeds going to LA fire relief efforts via the California Community Foundation.
Peel Dream Magazine has carved out a unique space in indie music with the dreamy, space-age textures of Rose Main Reading Room and Pad, but it all began with the hypnotic, lo-fi psychedelia of Modern Meta Physic. Drawing inspiration from bands like Stereolab and Spacemen 3, songs such as Qi Velocity and Deetjen’s hum with krautrock rhythms and melodic minimalism. The new deluxe edition adds even more depth, with two tracks from the original sessions and six demos that offer a glimpse into the creative process that shaped the album.
Frontman Joseph Stevens reflects on the previously unreleased material, describing it as a bridge between his earlier, darker sonic explorations and the stripped-down, krautrock-inspired sound that became the foundation of Peel Dream Magazine. The newly included tracks were part of an abandoned project, Saturn Patterns, recorded under a different band name before evolving into the band’s signature aesthetic.
“This collection of home recordings takes me back to a time when my musical direction was shifting, and New York felt full of possibility,” says Stevens. “Hearing these songs again is both weird and cathartic, but I’m excited to share them with fans who are just discovering Modern Meta Physic for the first time.”
