Moonrisers Announce Dan Auerbach-Produced Debut Album Harsh & Exciting – Out May 30, 2025

Detroit-based instrumental doom folk duo Moonrisers—guitarist Libby DeCamp and drummer Adam Schreiber—make their striking debut with Harsh & Exciting, produced by Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) and set for release on May 30, 2025, via Easy Eye Sound. Recorded in a historic Nashville house predating country music, the album reimagines folk, blues, jazz, and gospel through an earthy yet cinematic lens.
Their hypnotic lead single, “Circle of the Seasons,” arrives today with a moody, reverberating video directed by Tim Hardiman. The track’s circular drum groove and raw guitar drawls evoke life’s endless cycles, channeling both grit and beauty.
Moonrisers craft music that feels both ancient and timeless, playing instruments with rich histories—a 1930s parlor guitar and a century-old calfskin drumkit—while drawing inspiration from nineteenth-century poets and early naturalists. Their recordings capture the ambiance of their surroundings, with the sounds of life—passing cars, distant sirens—blurring the line between the music and the world around it.
Auerbach, captivated by their intimate living room performances, invited them to Nashville’s Honky Chateau, where they re-recorded the album over three spontaneous days. The result is an atmospheric and unpolished masterpiece, enriched by contributions from bluegrass legends Tim O’Brien and Chris Scruggs.
Harsh & Exciting is more than an album—it’s a journey through sound, space, and time, embracing imperfection to create something truly immersive. Pre-order now.
