HNAF: Franc Moody Goes Full Cosmic Funk on ‘Chewing The Fat’

Franc Moody is back, and ‘Chewing The Fat’ might just be their funkiest, most adventurous album yet. Set for release on March 7, 2025, via Night Time Stories, the record takes their signature electro-funk grooves and pushes them into trippier, more expansive territory—without losing an ounce of that infectious energy they’re known for.
The album kicks off with “Driving On The Wrong Side Of The Road,” a psychedelic, acid-laced jam that oozes with swagger. Written and recorded in Los Angeles at 64 Sounds, the track is full of mellotrons, drum machines, and woozy synths, creating a kaleidoscopic soundscape that feels both chaotic and hypnotic. The duo describes it as capturing that feeling of being totally in over your head yet completely entranced by it—which is honestly a perfect way to sum up Franc Moody’s ability to make controlled chaos sound so damn smooth.
Then there’s “Bloodlines,” which strips things down to a tight groove, jagged guitars, and some irresistibly sharp synth work (fun fact: the synth used in this track was borrowed from Damon Albarn, which adds a cool layer of history). The song digs into deep personal connections and how they shape us, but like all of Franc Moody’s work, it’s still danceable as hell.
One of the album’s standout moments is “Space Between Us”—a warm, dreamy groove that blends indie-pop vocals, disco-blues percussion, and soulful chord progressions into something effortlessly feel-good. It’s crisp, hypnotic, and one of those songs that somehow makes you nostalgic for a moment you haven’t lived yet.
What makes Chewing The Fat feel different from their previous work is how free-flowing and unfiltered it is. It’s still packed with slick basslines, infectious rhythms, and cosmic funk energy, but there’s a looseness to it—like Franc Moody has fully embraced the weird, wonky, and unpredictable side of their sound. You can feel the DIY spirit and musical freedom in every track, which makes sense considering they recorded in a century-old house in Nashville that predates country music itself.
The duo is set to take Chewing The Fat on the road with an EU & UK tour, including a huge date at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on April 3, 2025. If their live shows are anything like this album, it’s going to be a wild, sweaty, groove-filled ride.
Bottom line? Franc Moody has never sounded more locked into their sound while still pushing it forward. Chewing The Fat is an absolute must-listen—whether you’re a longtime fan or just looking for an album to get completely lost in.
