HNAF: Babe Rainbow Go Full Psychedelic Dream Mode on ‘Slipper Imp and Shakaerator’:

Rating 10/10 – CLASSIC Album

Australian psych-pop voyagers Babe Rainbow are back, and they’ve never sounded more blissed-out or boldly weird. Their new album Slipper Imp and Shakaerator is a kaleidoscopic trip through groove-laden funk, dreamy pop, and woozy psychedelia that feels like a sun-drenched surfboard ride into another dimension.
Opening track “What is ashwagandha” sets the tone with off-kilter drum machines and hazy field recordings—like an herbal remedy for your brainwaves. From there, the band slips effortlessly between sonic worlds, blending retro textures with futuristic touches. Tracks like “Like Cleopatra” and “Aquarium Cowgirl” are instant standouts: melodic, strange, and wildly danceable.
There’s a newfound confidence in the experimentation here. Recorded in a wide-open warehouse on a former banana farm, Slipper Imp and Shakaerator captures the loose, jammy spirit of Babe Rainbow’s roots while expanding into fresh, uncharted territory. The presence of guests like Camille Jansen and Stu Mackenzie only deepens the album’s rich, unpredictable vibe.
This is Babe Rainbow at their most playful, their most psychedelic, and arguably their most refined. Slipper Imp and Shakaerator doesn’t just revisit the magic that first drew listeners in—it stretches it, warps it, and dips it in glitter. It’s a cosmic postcard from the Gold Coast, and it absolutely slaps. We love this so much we gave it a 10, which is rare on AudioFuzz! Check it out below and let us know your thoughts:
