Lionlimb, the artistic expression of New York-based singer/songwriter/producer Stewart Bronaugh, proudly releases the new single “Underwater” from their upcoming album, Limbo, set to debut on May 24th via Bayonet Records. “Underwater” joins the ranks of earlier releases including “Dream of You” featuring Angel Olsen—whom Bronaugh has extensively toured with—and the album’s first single, “Hurricane.” In “Underwater,” Bronaugh lyrically explores the depths of falling in love, likening it to a deep-sea dive, with evocative piano and tense strings that simulate the experience. The song’s nature-inspired imagery and psychedelic instrumentation paint a picture of being consumed by an overwhelming force.
Limbo delves into themes of love, desire, and heartache, converting Bronaugh’s personal experiences into poignant ballads. The album crafts a dreamlike aura of escape while addressing his confrontations with the past. Drawing inspiration from ’70s Italian film scores, ’60s girl group sounds, and classic funk and soul, Bronaugh creates a captivating soundscape that is both enigmatic and nostalgically familiar. This distinctive sound is further enhanced by the dynamic live drums of collaborator Joshua Jaeger, adding a tangible intensity to the album’s richly layered production.
