Coffin Prick Unveils “Soap” – A Haunting Prelude to ‘Loose Enchantment,’ Out May 16

Coffin Prick is back with “Soap,” the latest single from his upcoming album, Loose Enchantment, set to drop on May 16 via Temporal Drift—and yes, you can pre-order the LP now. But that’s not all: Coffin Prick will also be hitting the road this July, opening for Cap’n Jazz on select dates (full tour itinerary below).
A Deeper Dive into “Soap”
“Soap” is a song born of transformation—a skeletal idea that first surfaced years ago but has since been flipped inside out, evolving from an instrumental into a cryptic, tightly wound vocal piece. It’s Coffin Prick’s ode to the paradox of vanishing while simultaneously being exposed, a track that scrubs the record clean while keeping secrets locked in fractured hands. Notably, it also marks the first-ever use of acoustic drumming on a Coffin Prick track, courtesy of Alejandro Salazar-Dyer. And for those craving something extra, this is the album’s only guitar solo—yes, you read that right.
What is Loose Enchantment?
More than just a collection of songs, Loose Enchantment is music for a world teetering on the edge of disenchantment. Conceived in a different frame of mind, it captures the confusion of modern life while peeling back the layers of creation’s deepest urges. Across eleven new tracks, Coffin Prick recorded and produced the album himself at his home in Los Angeles, a city that thrives on fleeting commitments and the people who somehow uphold them.
Though Coffin Prick operates mostly as a one-man force, he draws on a rotating cast of collaborators, including Steven Brown (Tuxedomoon), Alejandro Salazar-Dyer (Rincs), Kathy Lea (Soft Location), John Herndon (Tortoise), and Aaron Fernandez Olson (LA Takedown). The result? A sound that fuses the technologically advanced with the beautifully broken, where past echoes collide with visions of an imagined future. Coffin Prick is less a solo act and more an ever-mutable idea, cemented yet unpredictable.
From Laughing to Loose Enchantment
Following 2023’s Laughing (released via Sophomore Lounge), Coffin Prick wasted no time. He assembled a live band, played relentless shows, and disappeared into his home studio to build what would become Loose Enchantment. Where Laughing found him stumbling through the recording process, this time around, he’s sharpened his skills—turning past missteps into new victories.
The result is an album filled with odes to self-delusion, the mysteries of creativity, the struggle for purity, and the hidden truths of other people’s lives. In other words? A little Loose Enchantment for everyone.
