British-born, Berlin-based artist Anika returns with Abyss, her most visceral and urgent album yet. Fueled by frustration, anger, and the disorienting chaos of modern existence, her third full-length release takes a heavier, rawer turn compared to her past work.
Recorded live to tape in just a few days at the legendary Hansa Studios—the same space that shaped iconic recordings by David Bowie and Depeche Mode—Abyss crackles with immediacy. Anika deliberately kept overdubs to a minimum, ensuring that every note and every word captured the raw energy of the moment.
She wrote the songs herself before enlisting Martin Thulin of Exploded View to help flesh them out. To bring her vision to life in the studio, she assembled a powerhouse live band: Andrea Belfi on drums, Tomas Nochteff (Mueran Humanos) on bass, and Lawrence Goodwin (The Pleasure Majenta) on guitar. Studio wizards Nanni Johansson and Frida Claeson Johansson handled the engineering, ensuring every sound hit with full force.
With its 10 tracks surging with emotion and intensity, Abyss is a bold statement—an unfiltered sonic document of an artist pushing herself to the limit.
