TORRES – “Hug From A Dinosaur” – Thirstier

TORRES has come out with an absolutely tremendous album.  Where her last albums were quiet and intense, Thirstier is more of a rocker, like her live performances.  The guitars take a front suit in this album; the songs are more of a celebration.  In “Hug From A Dinosaur” she proclaims, “You’re a girl, you’re the best of all possible worlds/
Before my wild happiness, who was I, if not yours?” This is such a change from the generally sad and introverted songs of the past like “Ferris Wheel”.  According to her bio:

The anxious hush that fell over much of Scott’s previous music gets turned inside-out in songs tailored for post-plague celebration. Scott co-produced the album with Rob Ellis and Peter Miles, drawing on her experience self-producing the acclaimed 2020 LP Silver Tongue to push her music onto an even broader scale.

Having Rob Ellis helping produced did bring out the rocker in TORRES.  Seen live, her guitar playing always takes center stage.  I definitely recommend seeing her live.  Check out the lyrics below:

Lyrics

You’re a girl, you’re the best of all possible worlds
Before my wild happiness, who was I, if not yours?
You’re a girl, you’re the best of all possible worlds
Before my wild happiness, who was I, if not yours?
My baby ran up blazing
Forty laps around the sun
She is hungry, she is thirsty
But she don’t wanna stop for lunch
No time to spare so I’m gonna bring her some
No time to spare so I’m gonna bring her some
Clock is sinking, in the quicksand, disappearing fast
No bother, where we’re headed, we won’t need that
What comprises all this joy I feel and where was it before
Ancient and eternal, and surreal as a hug from a dinosaur
My baby ran up blazing
Forty laps around the sun
She is hungry, she is thirsty
But she don’t wanna stop for lunch
No time to spare so I’m gonna bring her some
(No time to spare, gonna bring her some)
No time to spare so I’m gonna bring her some
(No time to spare, gonna bring her some)
I just had a memory, a future
Time and money aren’t real and empathy’s scarred
You’re superconscious, are new and intrusive
Ancient and eternal, and surreal as a hug from a dinosaur
Hug from a dinosaur
My baby ran up blazing
Forty laps around the sun
She is hungry, she is thirsty
But she don’t wanna stop for lunch
No time to spare so I’m gonna bring her some
(No time to spare, gonna bring her some)
No time to spare so I’m gonna bring her some
(No time to spare, gonna bring her some)
No time to spare so I’m gonna bring her some
(No time to spare, gonna bring her some)
No time to spare so I’m gonna bring her some
(No time)
