London-born drummer, composer, and bandleader Tom Skinner, celebrated for his contributions to The Smile and Sons of Kemet, is excited to announce the release of a new, deluxe double LP, Voices of Bishara Live at “mu.” This limited edition album, set for release on May 10th through International Anthem, features a twenty-minute lead single, Skinner’s live version of Abdul Wadud’s “Oasis,” now available on digital music platforms. Fans can listen to the single and preorder the album here.
Recorded at the cozy London venue “mu,” the album showcases the established lineup of Skinner’s Voices of Bishara ensemble, featuring Robert Stillman and Chelsea Carmichael on woodwinds, Kareem Dayes on cello, and Tom Herbert on bass. This group formed following the release of his debut album Voices of Bishara in 2022, distributed by Brownswood, International Anthem, and Nonesuch Records.
In January 2023, the ensemble performed tracks from the Voices of Bishara album at “mu,” a venue known for its cultural significance on Kingsland Road in North London. During this legendary performance, Skinner enriched the set with a cover of a Tony Williams tune and three compositions by Abdul Wadud, notably influencing Skinner’s work. This particular night’s recording captures an expansive rendition of Skinner’s original “Bishara,” alongside a powerful interpretation of Wadud’s “Oasis,” highlighted
