HEAR: Charlie Cunningham – “Breather”
London based songwriter Charlie Cunningham released his widely acclaimed debut ‘Outside Things’ in late 2014, and now returns with his emotive follow up ‘Breather’ – his second EP out 9th March through Kissability.
Renowned for his percussive guitar sound, which draws heavily on his influences from two years living in Seville, Cunningham’s song writing on “Breather” is second to none; it’s an intimate and powerful offering with his voice used as a fragile instrument to compliment his perfectly honed guitar craftsmanship.
Title track and EP opener ‘Breather’ captures with its melodic grounding but quickly and effectively changes pace leaving you unsure as to what might happen next. ‘Lessleg’ is a heartfelt contemplation of friendship the delicately constructed ‘Long Grass’ flows effortlessly into closing track ‘Own Speed’, a beautiful folk rock offering with playful vocals reminiscent of Phosphorescent or Midlake.
Cunningham’s ‘Breather’ EP further signals a very bright future for this rising British star.
