Daring Concepts: Dalton Deschain & The Traveling Show – “Tin Laurel”
Dalton Deschain & The Traveling Show
“Tin Laurels”
Catherine
Dalton Deschain is releasing one of a trio of albums, and this first release is one the greatest ideas for a concept album since Amanda Palmer and Jason Wembley’s Evelyn Evelyn. Roberta, the first album, tells the story of a trans-woman circus freak in the 1940’s who falls in love with a stagehand. The second album, about to release is called Catherine. In this chapter, listeners follow the title character, a struggling young aspiring actress who turns to the help of a dangerous man. It is an album of confrontation and acceptance. Deschain gathered The Traveling Show, comprised of Phil Harris (drums), Jo Kroger (vox), and David Warpaint (bassist), to make his dream albums. According to Spill Magazine:
“the band’s penchant for dramatism and mastery in uniting creative elements one would not otherwise conceive could be combined – sci-fi, horror, folk stories sonically delivered through hooks, dance beats, and rough but catchy riffs.”
This is challenging music which is certainly well worth the trouble. Beautiful and disturbing, check this wonder out.
