Coheed and Cambria are back with their new track, “Blind Side Sonny,” offering fans the first glimpse into the band’s upcoming project. Following the success of 2022’s Vaxis Act II: A Window of the Waking Mind, which earned critical acclaim and their first Top 10 radio hit with “Shoulders,” this latest release pushes the band into even more intense territory. “Blind Side Sonny” emerges as one of Coheed’s most aggressive songs to date, introducing a new villain to their expansive The Amory Wars/Vaxis universe. The accompanying Max Moore-directed music video features the band performing in front of their fervent fanbase, while the villainous Sonny ominously infiltrates the crowd (see below):
Vocalist Claudio Sanchez describes “Blind Side Sonny” as a song about revenge, exploring the dark consequences of misunderstanding. “What may seem like an innocent choice to someone could be the breeding ground of another’s malicious misunderstanding. Perception can be your worst enemy,” Sanchez explains, giving the track a thematic depth that fits perfectly into Coheed’s intricate universe.
The release of “Blind Side Sonny” follows Coheed and Cambria’s North American tour with Incubus, which saw them perform at iconic venues, including sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden and the Allstate Arena. This October, they’ll headline Saturday night at Furnace Fest in Alabama and appear at both dates of When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas, before heading to Australia to headline the Monolith Festival.
For over 20 years, Coheed and Cambria have defied genre constraints, blending progressive rock, metal, and conceptual storytelling into a unique, boundary-breaking experience. With Claudio Sanchez (vocals/guitar), Travis Stever (guitar), Josh Eppard (drums), and Zach Cooper (bass) at the helm, they continue to push musical and narrative boundaries, captivating fans and critics alike with their visionary approach to rock music.
