Cinematic Pop: HUNGER – “Naked”
HUNGER
“Naked”
A beautiful, cinematic, slightly dark single from this band that comes from the quiet outskirts of Vienna. HUNGER first formed in early 2014. Childhood friends, Daniel Rumpel and Johannes Herbst approached long-term fellow vocalist Lucas Fendrich with the intention of creating a truly dark and cinematic sound. They definitely achieved that. This beautiful piece of music reminds me of what pop should sound like, harmonies galore, lyrics that are sad yet hopeful in a strange way, tuneful to the max, and production that sounds perfect through your headphones or blasting on the stereo. Tone and evocation matter more than standard song structure. Parallels to Imagine Dragons are not too farfetched. I love this band. They have that sound that just wins me over. Thank god they didn’t overproduce it.
