Skegss has unveiled “Spaceman,” their latest single since the 2022 releases of “Stranger Days” and “December.” This stirring rock track builds from a simmering melody to an explosive anthem, marking a new era for the Australian duo comprised of Ben Reed (vocals, guitar) and Jonny Lani (drums). “Crafted during the lockdown, ‘Spaceman’ underwent several transformations before reaching its final form,” Reed shares. “It’s intriguing how distant outer space feels; sleep can be elusive, but pondering the cosmos is even more challenging.”
Released via Loma Vista Recordings, “Spaceman” is accompanied by a dynamic, narrative-rich video that captures Skegss’ fantastical encounter with an alien named Ruku Chismun—Ricky Cheesemoon in translation. Stranded on Earth and longing for space, Ruku discovers fun, love, and a bit of confusion on our planet. “We wanted to lift his spirits by showing him how we have fun,” says Reed. “He really got into the groove, found love, and got lost a couple of times. We’re all rooting for Ruku to find his way.”
Following their chart-topping 2021 album, Rehearsal, which debuted at #1 on Australia’s ARIA Charts, Skegss continues to make waves. The album’s lead single “Valhalla” secured their fifth consecutive entry on triple j’s Hottest 100, complemented by features in NME Australia, Thrasher, American Songwriter, Consequence, The Big Takeover, DIY, and Rolling Stone Australia. This ongoing acclaim underscores Skegss’ evolving sound and their resonant exploration of life’s expansive and personal themes.
