Raised By Children: Marinho – “Freckles”

Marinho

“Freckles”

~

What a great voice over that beautiful Juliana Hatfield-like bass line, just driving through to you the sadness of being raised by parents that were not ready to raise children of their own.  So many of us were raised this way: plot down in front of the TV, latch key kids, children not really wanted.  Marinho captures this lack of stability better than anyone since Juliana Hatfield.  The comparison is apt, though Marinho is a real individual.  Coming from Lisbon, raised on American TV, dealing with learning about love from Hollywood, Marinho turned to music to deal with growing up and loneliness.  This music is something so beautiful, a lot like Mitski yet more optimistic.  Just read the lyrics:

this is just a part of being lonely

this is just a part of being lonely

and when the freckles take over my body when the freckles take over my body (x2) acceptance is a currency

and we’re the lower class emotionally poor since our infancy raised by kids

with no abilities

momma always said I was an easy birth

this is just a part of being lonely

this is just a part of being lonely

and when the freckles take over my body when the freckles take over my body momma always said I was an easy birth

dad pushes everyone away

mom pulled away from everyone

and life is like a tilde sign with ups and downs, not a straight line
