Performance Art: Franz Szony – “Petunia”
“Petunia”
I love Franz Szony; the look, the music, the total artistic and beautiful camp of the whole experience. Szony is more than music; Szony is an artist with a capital A. This is overwhelming performance art, with great music and just that touch of decadence that we all need sometimes. I could see Oscar Wilde and James Whistler listening and watching Szony perform, throwing gladiolas after the show, being clever and so coy. This is, as I’ll repeat, great art, harkening back to a former age but looking forward to the future. Grace Jones, duet with Szony please. That would be ecstasy.
Are you the boy with the golden earring? You’re here, until you feel like disappearing. You’re a stereotypical Gemini You need your other half to identify So set yourself free To be perishable is the greatest luxury Is this your idea of heaven And if you make a wish at eleven eleven Would you rise from the Earth into the sky And release from all these little white lies They’ll look back and say that they knew ya And they’ll call you Petunia Lately I have been feeling quite contrary Like a birth at the mortuary I’ll let all my fears become endangered I do desire that we may be better strangers So set yourself free To be perishable is the greatest luxury Is this your idea of heaven And if you make a wish at eleven eleven Would you rise from the Earth into the sky And release from all these little white lies They’ll look back and say that they knew ya And they’ll call you Petunia
