Godfather Of Punk, Back With A Vengeance: Iggy Pop – “Gardenia”
Iggy Pop
“Gardenia”
Post Pop Depression
In what has been a very tough year for heroes, thank god some of my heroes are still out there making music, and they are showing no signs of slowing down. Case in point: just listen to the new single by the Godfather of Punk – Iggy Pop. His growl is still there; his fuck the world attitude still in place. “Gardenia” sounds like it could have been recorded for The Idiot. Bowie’s influence and Lou’s attitude are over this piece, but in the end, it’s all Iggy. This release and PJ Harvey’s upcoming album make me realize that my heroes are not all gone. To make me happiest, all I need now is Patti Smith and Neal Young to release new material. Seriously, this is one of the best songs I’ve heard for a while. If Iggy can do this at his age, you kids out there still have someone to look up to. Oh, and a side note: Alice Cooper, you still have it too. Put out that classic, get the old band (what’s left) back together, and kick ass. Iggy has done it. Bowie and Lou would be so proud.
