Appalachian Beauty: Mipso – “Coming Down The Mountain”

“Coming Down The Mountain”

Coming Down The Mountain

What a great band.  Chapel Hill’s indie Americana quartet Mipso – Jacob Sharp (mandolin, vocals), Wood Robinson (bass, vocals), Joseph Terrell (guitar, vocals), and Libby Rodenbough (fiddle, vocals) – balances the progressiveness of the Research Triangle with the beauty and conservatism of the rural south.  This is a great band that is not afraid of its Appalachian roots and urban education.  Their video is an absolutely beautiful travel homage to the mountains.  (I feel a connection to this band – roots, kiddies, roots.)  Mipso brings a distinctly unique sound- full of wistful beauty, hopeful undercurrents, and panoramic soundscapes.  I love Americana, and Mipso is one of the best practitioners of the genre, and may be the very best.  Listen and fall in love.
