    INTERVIEW: The Post Nobles

    The Interview with 

    THE POST NOBLES

    AudioFuzz had the distinct pleasure to ask the band, The Post Nobles, some question.  And of course, we got some great answers.  Thanks guys.

    1.  Here comes the obvious.  How long have you guys been playing music, and how long have you been together?

     

    Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well! We started to play instruments in our early teens. Kieran and Ricky started on the drums, and Denis and Andrew played guitar. Kieran and Andrew would make noise in the basement of the O’Leary house for hours until the neighbors would call the cops. The band formulated when we had some song ideas, and we wanted to start playing some shows.  This was around 3 or 4 years ago. At the time no one played bass, so Kieran would take it up and pretend like he knew what he was doing. Eventually he would take what he knew about the bass and transfer it to the guitar. Jack Lynne joined the band a few weeks ago after meeting Denis at a wild party in NYC…. Party, Bonus!2.  What were your main influences in your music?  Who do you listen to now?



    We usually cite The Strokes as one of the bands that really inspired us to formulate the band. Over the years our taste has mixed and morphed itself throughout many different genres. From classics like Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and The Velvet Underground, to contemporary acts like Jack White and all of his associated acts, the Flaming Lips, Pavement, MGMT, etc.      Right now (and for the last 4 years) we delve deep into the psychedelic creations of the Australian band Tame Impala and it’s brother acts like Pond. For some reason or another Kieran is going through a major Moby bender at the moment. Andrew can’t stop listening to JC & The Voidz and Mac DeMarco. Ricky is stuck in his usual phase of Pink Floyd and the Bee Gees. We’re convinced that Denis is about to start his own investigative television show to locate the whereabouts of legendary ex-Flaming Lips guitarist Ronald Jones, don’t put it past him.



    3.  Is there a significance to the name The Post Nobles?  Were there pre-nobles or Peasants?      

    The Post Nobles is a homophone of Post No Bills, a sign that frequents the greater New York City area. In a time when Nobility has become a long lost notion, we like to think we can bring it back to life. There was certainly a pre-nobles, even if it was never an official title. Everyone starts off as some sort of peasant in this life- it’s an honor though, to be a peasant. It’s a very childlike sort of living, very Zen, you know? Just living, not trying to meet expectations or please others.  

    4.  I love your music, being a huge early Floyd fan.  I was wondering; were you a fan of some of the other psychedelic bands, for example, Tyrannosaurus Rex (pre-electric), maybe Julian Cope or Robyn Hitchcock?

     
    Thanks! We listen to whatever connects with us no matter what it is. Whether it’s early psychedelia, Michael Jackson type of pop, greatest hits of the 90’s, the late great Moondog- it could be anything- as long as it brings that wave of emotion over one of us, then we can dig it.  

    5.  Do you love playing live or studio work best?  What are some of the pros and cons?  Is your live show psychedelic or plain stage, if you know what I mean?

     
    We live for the studio work, but we thrive in a live setting. We recorded produced and mixed our entire E.P. ourselves.  We spent a few days at Young Street Studios, run by Mike Hogan, to tweak a few of the mixes. But in the end it was just us huddled around our equipment clicking all the buttons until we had something that connected with us. We are really working hard on improving our studio work, producing, recording and mixing other bands to help us gain some knowledge. But when we are on stage playing together and the show is tight- some sort of magical waves comes over us, and so far we have really been able to connect with the fans in that setting

    Our job this summer is translating that live energy and magic into the best album since the Space Jam Soundtrack.


    6.  When are you touring?  Are you coming to Pittsburgh?

     
    We would love to come to Pittsburgh! We are going to be booking as many shows as possible this summer, and any sort of tour would be amazing! We don’t have any out of state dates confirmed yet, but we are working on it!

     

    7.  Last question:  anything you want to talk about that I haven’t asked?  Are you reading anything interesting?  If you were an animal (wild or domestic), what would you be?

     
    Ummm, does the Tao Te Ching count?We’re very in touch with our animal spirits, and yes we’ve had these names written down for years now:

    Ricky the Splendid Squirrel
    Andrew the Oceangoing Orca
    Denis the Majestic Seahorse
    Jack the Great Bear
    Kieran the Kickin’ Kangaroo.
