Aminé is back to kick off 2025 with a bang, dropping his first single of the year, “Familiar.” After keeping the momentum strong with a string of singles in late 2024, this track marks the first taste of his highly anticipated new album, set to arrive this spring via 10K Projects.
With “Familiar,” Aminé taps into the infectious energy that’s defined his career, blending his signature bounce with subtle nods to the disco-soul grooves of KAYTRAMINÉ. But beneath the vibrant production lies a deeper introspection—a sharp, self-aware look at a failed relationship.
The single arrives alongside a visually stunning music video, packed with references to Aminé’s Ethiopian-Eritrean roots, hinting at the broader themes that will shape his upcoming album.
Speaking on the track, he shares:
“You love somebody while knowing that it’s not the right thing to do, but it’s still hard to let go. I let a little bit of my toxic side onto the track, too, but I think that honesty is important.”
Even without a full project in 2024, Aminé was far from quiet. He put his own spin on Charli XCX’s “360”, launched the first-ever Best Day Ever festival in his hometown, and dropped his second New Balance signature sneaker, the BTEE740, paying homage to his Portland high school, Benson Tech. And of course, he kept the singles coming.
Listen/watch “Familiar” now and stay locked in—there’s plenty more Aminé on the way.
