L.A. Witch Return with ‘DOGGOD’—A Haunting Exploration of Love, Devotion, and Rebellion

L.A. Witch, longtime purveyors of Southern California’s dark and sultry rock underbelly, are back with ‘DOGGOD,’ their most ambitious and cinematic album yet, out April 4, 2025, via Suicide Squeeze Records. The trio—Sade Sanchez (vocals/guitar), Irita Pai (bass), and Ellie English (drums)—continue to conjure their signature mix of garage, psychedelia, and post-punk noir, but this time, they push their sound further into the unknown, crafting the record in Paris’ legendary Motorbass Studio on Rue de Martyrs.
Today, they unleash “The Lines,” a feverish single that pulses with chugging basslines, relentless percussion, and wiry, fluorescent guitar riffs. Sanchez’s hypnotic, talk-sung vocals cut through the haze:
“You shoot the stars / They’re not aligned / The way you hoped / You trace the lines.”
The song is a collision of darkwave, punk energy, and eerie psychedelia, further proving that L.A. Witch never play by the rules—they set them on fire.
DOGGOD: A Rebellion Against Love’s Devotion
At its core, DOGGOD is an exaltation of devotion and a subversion of the divine, a palindromic meditation on love’s power and its ability to consume, enslave, and exalt. “I feel like I’m some sort of servant or slave to love,” Sanchez explains. “There’s a willingness to suffer for it, die for it… just as a dog would.” The album’s title blurs the line between unwavering faith and submission, twisting the traditional connotations of “dog” and “god” into something raw and revelatory.
This battle between passion and sacrifice unfolds across DOGGOD’s shadowy, intoxicating soundscapes. Opening track “Icicle” drifts through chorus-drenched guitars and post-punk minimalism, evoking Joy Division and early The Cure, while “Kiss Me Deep” channels romantic fatalism, painting love as an eternal force transcending time and lifetimes. Meanwhile, “777” is a propulsive, distorted anthem of devotion unto death, where Sanchez’s ethereal vocals meet the raw edge of fuzzed-out riffs and pounding rhythms.
With DOGGOD, L.A. Witch expand their sonic world without losing the effortless cool and intoxicating menace that has defined them for over a decade. The desert highways and smoky warehouse gigs that shaped their early sound remain, but now, they’ve stepped into a bigger, more mysterious cosmos, where love, faith, and rebellion intertwine in a haunting fever dream.
L.A. Witch’s most introspective, spellbinding, and fearless album yet is on its way—mark April 4 on your calendar, and prepare to surrender to DOGGOD.
