Massachusetts-based duo Taxidermists—Cooper B. Handy (LUCY) and Salvadore McNamara—are back with “Does The Wind Know”, the latest taste of their upcoming album 20247, out March 7 via Danger Collective Records. Premiering today via FLOOD Magazine, the track is a no-frills, high-energy burst of raw, infectious riffs—tight, urgent, and impossible to ignore. It’s over before you know it, yet it lingers, pulling you back for another spin.

“We sing together on most of this one,” the band shares. “It’s a winter mantra: ‘Does the wind know that you’re cold?’ A love song. An ode to believing in what you’re doing.”

“Does The Wind Know” (stream it now HERE) follows the frenetic lead single “Shoot”, which has already turned heads at The FADER (Songs You Need in Your Life), American Songwriter, Austin Town Hall, and more.

Spring Tour & SXSW Appearance

Taxidermists are hitting the road this spring, including NYC’s Trans-Pecos on April 3 and LA’s Permanent Records on April 12, plus a much-anticipated stop at SXSW in March. Tickets are on sale now, and pre-orders for 20247 are live.

DIY or Die: The Making of 20247

Since meeting on Myspace as pre-teens in 2007, Handy and McNamara have championed a no-gimmicks, no-pretension approach to music. Taxidermists operate in perfect harmony between boundless creativity and the simple joy of making music with your best friend. “We haven’t made a record like this in 12 years, and we’ve learned so much since then,” they say. “We may not put out a ton of music, but we care about the music we make.”

That dedication is all over 20247. During a frigid Massachusetts winter, the duo huddled around a small space heater in McNamara’s garage studio, crafting the album in temperatures averaging 39°F. Many of the songs were written and recorded in a single night, the longest clocking in at just 2:50. Recorded entirely to tape, the album embraces the beautifully imperfect, analog spontaneity that defines Taxidermists’ sound—fractured yet fluid, rough yet deeply human.

At its core, 20247 is the sound of two best friends making something special, embracing chaos, and finding magic in the mess.

Catch them live this spring and stay tuned for more.
