Moody Joody Announces Debut EP Dream Girl with Irresistible Single “Cuts Deep”
Nashville-based shimmer-pop trio Moody Joody unveils their debut EP Dream Girl, set to drop on November 8 via Photo Finish Records, now available for pre-save. Alongside the announcement, the band offers an electrifying preview with their new single “Cuts Deep,” accompanied by a stylish visualizer. Fans can catch the celebration live at Moody Joody’s official EP release show on November 8 at Row 1 in Nashville.
The band’s sound on Dream Girl is a lush combination of synth-heavy melodies, seductive undertones, and emotional depth. Kayla Hall and Kaitie Forbes, the duo behind the group’s vocal and guitar work, invite listeners to lose themselves on the dance floor while embracing the intricacies of being human. Their debut balances upbeat, glittering pop moments with raw, honest reflections, allowing Moody Joody to “feel everything” and encouraging fans to dance through both highs and lows.
This week, the trio joins forces with alt-pop group MisterWives on select dates of the MisterWives: Just For One Night! tour. Tickets are on sale now, giving fans a chance to experience Moody Joody’s vibrant energy live before the EP’s official release.
The heart of Dream Girl lies in its exploration of duality—the triumphs and challenges of womanhood, romance, self-acceptance, and existential musings. According to Forbes, the project is about shedding perfectionism and embracing authenticity: “It’s a story of romance, existential crises, loss, and rebirth. The mix of high-energy, optimistic dream pop with darker, vulnerable moments lets us own our humanness and step down from the pedestal we’ve been placed on.”
Hall adds that the EP “captures everything we are and feel, whether sexy and ethereal or dark and raw.” Tracks cover a spectrum of themes—mental health, unrequited love, personal power, and longing—creating a safe space to experience the full range of emotions tied to womanhood.
Their latest single, “Cuts Deep,” is a perfect introduction to the EP’s playful intensity. The song channels the chaos of a “define-the-relationship” moment when a casual fling turns into something more complicated. Packed with infectious sass, the track was co-written with frequent collaborator Scott Harris (known for his work with Shawn Mendes and Dua Lipa) during an off day in New York. Forbes recalls Harris jumping into the vocal booth with autotune cranked, adding a subtle touch of yearning to the playful, “I-don’t-care” attitude the song embodies.
With Dream Girl, Moody Joody delivers a shimmering debut—equal parts escapist pop and emotional catharsis—cementing themselves as a band to watch.
