Brooklyn’s psych rockers, ZEBEDEE, unleash their vibrant sophomore album, ‘Going Nowhere Fast,’ now available everywhere. The release is marked by their latest video for “Fast Edee,” an immersive exploration of sound and narrative. The album sees the band push their boundaries with thunderous drums, smooth guitar riffs, and introspective lyrics that offer a candid reflection on modern life. Expanding Their Sonic Universe
“Going Nowhere Fast” is a celebration of neo-psych and desert rock, melding fuzzy guitars with shimmering synths and post-punk beats. The tracks, crafted by frontman Row and guitarist Kelsey Van Mook, showcase the duo’s synergy and shared artistic vision. Produced by GRAMMY-winning engineer Daniel Avila, the album was recorded at Flux Recording Studios in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
Reflecting the Times
Row channels his frustrations about contemporary societal issues into the album’s powerful instrumentation and live performances. The ten tracks provide a poignant commentary on navigating societal challenges and the human condition, echoing the turmoil experienced during the pandemic. Row’s lyrics tackle themes of disillusionment with the state of the world, expressed through a lens shaped by his outsider perspective as a non-native.
“Fast Edee” – A Dive into Hedonism
The track “Fast Edee” introduces listeners to a fictional hedonist on a quest for pleasure. Row describes Edee as a wild character who embodies the “go hard or go home” mantra, exploring life’s excesses. The accompanying video, written and directed by Row, offers a gritty glimpse into New York’s underbelly, portraying Edee’s struggle to reconcile his past with a desire for change.
Playful and Reflective Moments
In a lighter vein, the track “I Don’t Know Where Your Phone Is” humorously critiques the global obsession with smartphones. The band also released a Jeremy Bastard remix of “For God’s Sake,” exploring new sonic territories. The original track, with its nostalgic video set in Maui, reflects on Row’s upbringing in Melbourne’s suburbs.

The band, featuring members from diverse backgrounds, has been a staple in NYC’s live music scene since 2013. Their line-up includes Zebedee Row (vocals, guitar), Kelsey Van Mook (guitar), Don McKenzie (drums/percussion), Michael Benham (bass), and Fred Seddon (guitar). They bring a fresh wave of energy and creativity, showcased in their upcoming performance at Mercury Lounge with Hundred Watt Heart, led by Kirk Douglas of The Roots, on August 13.
