Local natives, but I’ll wait for you, indie rock, alt rock, alternative rock

Rating 7/10 – GREAT Album

Local Natives receive the honor of HOT NEW ALBUM FRIDAYS this week! The latest album by Local Natives, But I’ll Wait For You, showcases the band’s mature reflection on growing older and the changes that come with it. Released in July 2023, this album marks their continued evolution in indie-rock, with a sound that embraces both their familiar roots and new explorations in melody and lyricism.

The album’s sound can be described as lush and embracing with indie rock staples that fans will recognize, melded with fresh sonic elements. For instance, tracks like “Alpharetta” and “Camera Shy” offer a vibrant soundscape, with the former drawing comparisons to Tame Impala and the latter featuring tropical influences. Another standout track, “April,” is noted for its psych-rock-inspired guitar riffs and catchy chorus, making it a highlight of the album.

There are many standout tracks and their continued skill in crafting melodic indie-rock is very apparent, the album breaks new ground. It’s a solid album that does not feel generic (like their last album). The consistency and comfort in their sound are astounding, with moments that beautifully encapsulate the band’s thoughtful and earnest approach to their music.

Overall, “But I’ll Wait For You” is a testament to Local Natives’ journey as a band that has matured and learned to navigate the complexities of life and music with a reflective and engaging approach. The album is both a continuation of their past work and a step into the familiar territory of indie rock that they have helped define over the years. Check out “April” below:
