Pop With A Purpose: Jonathan K – “Best Before”
Jonathan K
“Best Before”
In Memory Of…
This is an amazing artist, with a voice like an angel, and lyrics that are deep. In fact, “Best Before” is the best song dealing with loss of someone through addiction since Neil Young’s, “Tonight’s The Night” and “Needle and The Damage Done”. The whole album is dedicated to Jonathan K’s bestfriend and bandmate, Brendan, spiraled out of control into addiction. This is a beautiful song. If you are dried-eye after hearing this song, you have no heart. Jonathan’s story is so amazing:
After a house fire took all of his family’s worldly possessions, Jonathan K and his family moved to a remote Caribbean island called Mustique, where his father had found construction work. Growing up on an island with a year round population of under 200 proved to be a lonely and boring existence for Jonathan, whose ADHD allowed him to focus on only one thing, his obsession with music and songwriting.
This is when he moved to the Bahamas and met Brendan. And this album is in memory of that friendship. This is a tremendous music experience, proving that pop music can really make a difference. This is wonderful stuff. Take a listen. And the lyrics are printed below:
It’s nothing I don’t want to talk about it It’s something trite I don’t have the energy anymore to write To do the things that I like to do I guess it’s all downhill from here Some people want it just like you I’ll keep trying because there’s nothing else to do Some people look for things to blame Gave that up long ago, everything’s the same It’s nothing I don’t want to talk about it It’s something trite To do the things I like to do Well maybe it’s already through Or it’s all downhill from here Some people want it just like you I’ll keep trying because there’s nothing else to do Some people look for things to blame Good luck to all of them, everything’s the same Ohh, Ohh Ohh, Ohh I’m feeling sick
