    “Sugar For The Pill”

    Slowdive

Slowdive is back, hallelujah.  After twenty-some years, Slowdive has reformed and released a new album showcasing why they are one of the greatest Shoegaze bands ever.  Comprised of Neil Halstead (vocals, guitar), Rachel Goswell (vocals, guitar), Nick Chaplin (bass guitar), Christian Savill (guitar), and Simon Scott (drums), Slowdive has always been the band people compare other shoegaze bands to.  “Sugar For The Pill” is one of their songs ever, beginning with the beautiful guitar and bass work, just hovering in the air as the reverb echoes it into the background.  And then the vocals of Halstead pipe in, gentle and beautiful, and when Goswell harmonizes with Halstead, the song takes this beautiful, intensely inward turn, like you’re almost violating their space, evesdropping as it were, until you release you are welcomed part of their world, that spatial, almost Faerie (in the best sense) world.  This is truly beautiful summer evening music.  Thank you, Slowdive, for coming back into our lives.
