Lana del Rey

“Get High By The Beach”/”Terrence Loves You”

Honeymoon

Just what I needed to make my summer complete:  TWO NEW SONGS BY LANA, the queen of nihilism (which, is a good thing).  I’m sure you’ve all heard “Get High By The Beach”, where Lana covers her beautiful blend of nihilism (die young and leave a beautiful corpse), getting high, the ocean, and love gone bad.  She covers these themes so well that no one comes close to her.  She brings a chill to my spine every time she sings.  It’s almost passionless, but strangely drawing.  And she’s always memorable.  “Terence Loves You” is more personal with lyrics

But I’m putting all the lights on in the television
Trying to transmit, can you hear me?

Ground control to Major Tom
Can you hear me all night long?
Ground control to Major Tom

[Chorus]
Well I lost myself when I lost you
But I still got jazz when I’ve got the blues
I lost myself and I lost you too
And I still get trashed, honey, when I hear your tunes

Let me tell you, if these songs are any taste of what Honeymoon is going to be like, I can’t wait.  It seems that Lana may be mellowing a bit, but to me, she is the greatest nihilist since Plath.  Bring it on, Lana.  I would love to keep you company at the beach, getting high while listening to Terrence’s songs.  Thank you.
