Fleetwood Mac Give The Best Concert of 2014
Complete with Christine McVie the band known as FLEETWOOD MAC hit the road late September this year and already have a trail of stellar reviews behind them. The band is something of an anomaly having gone through break-ups, drug addiction, bankruptcy, loss of members and oh so much more. But if there’s one thing you can be assured of, they don’t stop and won’t stop according to lead guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.
The band opened MSG with a defining tune, which is the epitome of this band, “The Chain.” Members Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood and Christine McVie hit the stage of MSG for the first time together in 17 years. Picking up, right where they left off as if no time was wasted in those 17 years.
Stevie twirled, Christine added her timeless harmonies to the band, Lindsey played killer guitar solos, Mick banged the drums like a rocker in their early 20s and John McVie executed his killer bass lines giving a backbone to the rhythm section. There wasn’t a moment you thought that most of this band is in their 70s or nearing their 70s.
Christine McVie showed the crowd why her reunion with the group after a 17-year leave of absence was so important to the band. Her sunny singing on songs like “Little Lies” and “Say You Love Me” as well as her keyboard chops, displayed on “Don’t Stop” and “Gold Dust Woman,” brought back that dimension of the band that was missing.
The three acoustic ballads, “Never Going Back Again,” “Landslide” and “Never Going Back Again” were the emotional highlights of the evening. Tears could be seen and heard throughout the crowd.
The band played all of the hits that one could come to expect out this band that has graced our earth for 40+ years. Lindsey excitedly told the crowd to expect a lot more from Fleetwood Mac and that the core group that gave us the soundtrack to our lives will be together for good now. Best music news 17,000 people heard in years.
