J Battle Preps Debut Album “Holy Water”
I caught up with Tampa artist J Battle who has been on the independent grind making a name for himself in Florida. He is a mic controller and puts me in the mind of a West Coast artist. Definitely lyrically skilled and his content is refreshing because he offers a tinge of social commentary without being overly preachy. Real hip hop at its finest. Looking forward to hearing his debut album.
When did you start recording music?
I first started recording in 2003 at 19 years old I signed a contract with an independent label name Shock The World Ent for a year.
What part of Florida are you from specifically?
I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida in the heart of the city by a single mother who inspired me to chase my dream.
What are some of the obstacles and advantages of the Florida music scene?
Some of the obstacles about begin from Tampa is there’s no unity nobody wants to work as a team like Atlanta & New York the advantages of the Tampa music scene we only have local Joe’s no major rappers so it’s easy to build a fan base.
Who are some of the producers you have worked with?
Well let’s see I use to work with Unk Trax in the studio a lot he’s one of my favorite producer, Coke & Damage, my homie Grip and Brickks House of Beats, I also purchase beats online from Tone Jonez, Kid Flash, Legion Beats & DopeBoyzMuzic. my style is more poetic storytelling you know the blues with a drip of jazz in it.
Tell me about your new project “Holy Water”?
I just dropped the Ep “Ghetto Poetic” on 9/23/2017. The up and coming project which is “Holy Water” it’s not a gospel album, it’s me reborn in my purest form; more mature not afraid to speak my thoughts how I’m feeling at the time, rather right or wrong.
Whats next for you in your career?
To build an undeniable brand that stands out worldwide and be to Tampa what Rick Ross is to Miami so be on the lookout for “Holy Water” cause it’s coming.
