First off, I love the sound Stephen Chopek gets out of his acoustic guitar. Those clear, ringing tones support the beautiful tenor of Chopek’s plaintive voice. Having moved to Memphis has allowed the laid-backness of the city to sink into his bones. There is a looseness to this single that sometimes was missing in Chopek’s earlier work. I loved his earlier work, but this single and the album from which it comes, are some of the best work Chopek has down, and maybe some of the best singer/songwriter music down for a while. This is highly recommended. Check it out. It’s like Billy Bragg breathed his soul on Chopek.
